After many adventures and many days of travel, it’s time to say goodbye to China. Our adventure began at Madrid airport, from where we flew to Hong Kong. Now it seems that everything is very far away, but only a few weeks have passed.
Hong Kong is always an impactful city. On the one hand, it offers an incomparable urban panorama, full of light and endless skyscrapers: streets full of illuminated signs in cantons, markets and exotic food stalls, labyrinthine commercial buildings… But, on the other hand, Hong Kong regales its visitor with an exotic and amazing nature that is not only found in the mountains that surround it, which are home to various hiking trails and temples to visit, but its diversity of islands also dazzles the adventurer who wants to surf, canoe, climb or hike.
Although for a few years now it seems that life is more relaxed, this “super” city is still vibrant and very full of life. There is nothing to compare it to in Europe and much less in Spain.
From Hong Kong we travel by high-speed train to Guilin, one of the most pleasant and relaxed cities in the country. Here we enjoyed a well-deserved rest and the next day we continued the contemplative march, this time by boat, on the Li River, to reach Yangshuo. Mecca of climbing in Asia and city where the writer of this post lived for about four years of his life. If there is a place in Asia that can be characterized as a climber’s paradise, this is it. With over 1000 sport climbing routes, a variety of long routes, several ferratas, and an endless number of caves to explore, Yangshuo is always open to more adventure.
From Yangshuo we head to one of the best adventures of this trip, the Xing Ping Cave. This remote and very little exploited cave is done in about 6 hours and it is necessary to have some knowledge of climbing and rappelling. In addition, we traveled a beautiful bike path to enjoy the most beautiful points of this small town, famous for being represented on the Chinese 20 yuan banknote.
Finally, on our return trip to Hong Kong we made a stop in Shenzhen to visit one of the largest cities in China and thus savor a little of life in the big city, and to be able to rest also before our way back to Spain. Our accommodation, a super special “space” place!
Shenzhen is a city that arose as a result of the existence of Hong Kong. Former fishing village, now home to almost 10 million inhabitants. Here we enjoy two of the customs of modern China, the “spa”, or saunas, and the “KTV” or karaoke. Quite an experience!
Thus ended our 2023 trip through China, but we will not say goodbye, we will say see you soon. This year we will undoubtedly return to what is already one of our favorite destinations, as it offers us new experiences and adventures every time we come. China is a destination that until today did not attract so many tourists but in recent times has decided to promote and encourage new visitors to venture to discover its wonders, both geographical and cultural. Proof of this is that during 2024 no visa will be required to visit the Asian giant. Take the opportunity! Visit China.
